17 Pygmies celebrates its thirtieth anniversary. From that first occupation in 1982 leaving only Jackson Del Rey, aka Philip Drucker on. The path they have taken is one of trial and error. Originally the music was composed to be performed by a string quartet, but the theory is not always translated into practice and besides classical music as the foundation is "CIII" adorned with decorative elements. Symphonic rock, folk, dream pop, electro, indie and experimental music contribute to this stylish concept with which one 'Celestina' in beauty shutdown. We sincerely hope that this does not mean the swansong for 17 Pygmies. That would be a shame, because the work of this act has an artistic value where many, more famous and successful artists just missing.

17 Pygmies viert dit jaar zijn dertigste verjaardag. Van die eerste bezetting uit 1982 blijft alleen nog Jackson Del Rey, alias Philip Drucker over. Het traject dat ze hebben afgelegd is er één van vallen en opstaan. Want dat ze het moeilijk hebben valt af te leiden uit de lancering van een Pledge Music actie - http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/isabel- in een poging om geld in te zamelen om zo hun nieuwe project ‘Isabel’ te financieren. Dit wordt net als ‘Celestina’ een trilogie. Maar terug naar ‘CIII’ het laatste luik van ‘Celestina’ dat begin dit jaar verscheen. Wie de vorige twee delen niet kent: Celestina is een ruimteschip dat na een avontuurlijke en gevaarlijke reis in de oneindigheid van het universum (een deel van de bemanning is omgekomen) terugkeert naar de Aarde om de dreiging van een robot inval af te wenden. Het lot van de mensheid ligt in hun handen en redding of ondergang: het kan beide kanten uit. Om dit muzikaal te beschouwen als een zuiver space/progrock epos is de groep onrecht aandoen. Oorspronkelijk was de muziek gecomponeerd om opgevoerd te worden door een strijkerkwartet, doch de theorie wordt niet altijd omgezet in praktijk en naast klassieke muziek als grondslag wordt ‘CIII’ opgefleurd met decoratieve elementen. Symfonische rock, folk, dream pop, electro, indie en experimentele muziek dragen bij tot dit stijlvolle concept waarmee men ‘Celestina’ in schoonheid afsluit. We hopen oprecht dat dit niet de zwanenzang betekent voor 17 Pygmies. Dat zou pas zonde zijn, want het oeuvre van deze act bezit een artistieke meerwaarde waar het zovele, meer bekende en succesrijke artiesten net aan ontbreekt.
